The “Cash” Hunter Diaries: Reading Comprehension Mystery Cache

This cache has been archived.

klizich: This one was a fun cache and had a good run. Thanks to all who enjoyed it.
Flyer1957 was kind enough to pick it up after giving it one last visit.
This one could not meet the new guidelines. Perhaps it may be resurrected elsewhere, only time will tell.

Geocache Description:

Stage one is a cammo-taped 1” x 9” tube; stage two is a decon container. The final stage is a Where’s George Hotel containing a log book, writing implement and a number of origami Where’s George bills. Stages are located off of the Appalachian Trail where it crosses west of Barrett Road.

Eons ago, shortly after dinosaurs roamed the Earth, yours truly graduated college with a degree in English and a teaching certificate. Reflecting on this phenomenon, it was only fair not to see these ‘skills’ go to waste. Hence, this cache. As with most school related subjects, this one requires that you do some homework BEFORE going after the cache. Being a variation of a puzzle cache, you will need to discover the meaning (via the internet) of “homonym” and “homophone”. Merriam-Webster Online Dictionary, Cambridge Dictionaries Online, Dictionary.com and WordNet 2.0 were very helpful. Stage 1 contains a “Reading Comprehension“ exercise, which will provide you with the final coordinates...IF you read carefully and did your “homework” research; if not, this may be rather perplexing! As a suggestion, have a pen/pencil and pad with your to “take notes”. Also, reading aloud may be very helpful (again - remember your homework!), but don’t worry, you’ll only be graded by the flora and fauna! Compass directions and coordinates appear in proper order... you just have to read and comprehend them correctly. If all else fails, I will be available for “remedial” help (via e-mail), although this should not be necessary. All stages are located off of the Appalachian Trail in Vernon, NJ. This cache has been placed to attract cachers to this lovely area. There are great hiking trails and beautiful natural views, as well as other caches. These include “Pinwheel Vista” , “The Elusive ‘Nidge-Knee’” and “Exploring Double Pond II”. Wawayanda State Park is also nearby, offering other caches and outside recreational activities (between Memorial Day and Labor Day there is an entrance fee at the 2 main entrances). The best parking may be found on Barrett Road (accessible from the NJ or NY sides), at a small dirt area (1-2 cars) at N 41 12.882 by W 074 25.242, almost at the trailhead. There is additional parking off of the road (except when snow is present) nearby, southwest of the above location. NYNJTC trail map (#21) and/or the Wawayanda State Park map may be helpful, but are not a necessity. The cache itself is a decon box which is houses a Where’s George hotel. It is filled with a log, writing implement and a number of WG$ origami bills. There may be room for very small TB’s. It is “hooked” to its location, but can be removed for logging and trading. Total mileage is under a mile, round trip. Due to the challenge of the first stage, however, it may not be a cache and grab. Please be willing to abide by the following rules: (1) If you are going to take a WG$ bill, you MUST leave a WG$ bill in return. (2) You may trade (take) only ONE WG$ bill; that is, you cannot trade 2 or more WG$ bills for those in the cache. (3) Travel Bugs do not apply to the trade; you may take or leave these as you wish, room in the cache permitting, of course. The origami bills in the cache will periodically be replenished. This area of New Jersey is home to a variety of wildlife and plants. While ‘Bigfoot’ and ‘The Jersey Devil’ don’t make it a habit to ‘hang out’ here, bears, bobcat , poisonous snakes, ticks, etc. DO inhabit the area! Please use care and know what to do if you have an encounter. Poisonous plants also tend to appear. Caution and knowledge are your best tools. Enjoy the cache and have fun! If you have great difficulty, feel free to e-mail me for "tutoring".
