Geocache Description:

"There were four mills located on the Hammonasset River. There were two sawmills, a gristmill, and a pulp and paper mill. The gristmill and one of the sawmills were located where the Railroad bridge, I-95 and River Road cross the Hammonasset River. The dam and some of the foundation is still present. The other saw mill and paper mill were farther upstream almost in Killingworth."
(from "A History of Hammonasset(t)" by Gary Dunn, CT DEP - http://www.friendsofhammonasset.org/history.htm )

A traditional cache with log book, all age small trade items/swag in small plastic jar. Follow first blue trailer sign, and park just upriver of the River Road bridge. It’s a short hike to the cache. Pine needles and snow make the big rock slippery, so please use caution. A recently large fallen tree across the path makes access even more tricky now.
Trade even or up, replace the lid tightly, and PLEASE CAMOFLAGE WELL SO IT IS NOT EXPOSED TO MUGGLES AND CACHE ROBBERS. Bug spray recommended in summer months for mosquitoes & ticks.
ANGLER'S NOTE: Great fishing spot in season! Regulations and license info. and a current printable (pdf format) Ct. Angler's Guide can be found online at (visit link) It can also be obtained anywhere you can purchase a fishing license or by calling (860) 424-FISH (3474).
CITO, and Happy Trails!
