Un blockhaus est un type de fortification signifiant « maison de
billots de bois qui bloque le passage ». Construit vers 1781, le
Blockhaus de la Rivière-Lacolle faisait partie du réseau de défense
de la colonie britannique. Tout en protégeant la scierie et le
phare érigés sur la rivière Lacolle, le Blockhaus constituait un
avant-poste pour les soldats britanniques en mission dans le
Haut-Richelieu et sur le lac Champlain. Ce bâtiment est le seul
blockhaus parmi les 25 construits au Québec à avoir survécu au
temps. Le Blockhaus offre une halte cyclable et un bureau
d'information touristique sur l'axe cyclable Vallée-des-Forts
— Saint-Jean-sur-Richelieu—Frontière

A blockhouse is a type of fortification, a structure of logs
that blocks the way. The Lacolle River blockhouse, dating from
1781, was part of the British colony’s defence system. It
protected the sawmill and the lighthouse on the Lacolle River and
served as an outpost for British soldiers in the Upper Richelieu
region and on Lake Champlain. This is the only surviving example of
the 25 blockhouses built in Quebec. There is a rest area for
cyclists and a tourist information office on the cycling route
linking the "Valley of the forts" with Saint-Jean-sur-Richelieu and
the Canada-U.S. border.
