William the Lion bestowed the church of Fothmuref to the Abbey
of Arbroath on its foundation. It was dedicated by Bishop David of
St Andrews in 1243. It was refurbished and rebuilt many times over
the years, until it was replaced by the Present Barry Church in
1800.
