This series of caches is named after the daughters of Charles the first. He was the father of Charles the second who escaped along Monarchs Way (See history below kindly borrowed from royandlin.) As such the caches start on Monarchs way and spread out from there.
The series is designed to introduce people to Geocaching. The caches are in various sizes and styles. Eventually there will be five caches in total, ranging from very easy to something a little more challenging.
The Monarch’s Way is a long distance walk following the escape route of Charles II after the Battle of Worcester in 1651.
For six exciting weeks, and hotly pursued by the Parliamentary forces under Oliver Cromwell, he travelled first north, then south through the Cotswolds and the Mendips to the South Coast, and finally along the South Downs to Shoreham where he made his escape to France. Loyally supported by his followers, many at great risk to their own lives, he was given shelter in places both great and humble, many of which still exist today.
This long distance walk (615 miles) using footpaths and bridleways closely follows the route taken by Charles II and enables you to visit many historic sites and buildings, maybe only previously known to you through the history books. It also takes you through two World Heritage Sites and six Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty plus some of the finest scenery in western and southern England
The walk is way marked and is shown on the latest editions of the Ordnance Survey's Land ranger and Explorer maps.
If you aproach from the south the footpath leads through a farm yard please be considerate and do not attempt this cache at night from this direction. While in the area why not continue along the path to complete Monarchs Wayside which is within easy reach.
