Geocache Description:

The Pachaquack Preserve, as I understand it, was “opened” in 2001. As part of the Greenway initiative, funding was made available by the state and resources allotted to make the area more user-friendly. As quoted from the Governor:

"This wonderful new park, which includes a two-mile-long nature trail, will greatly enhance recreational opportunities for families and individuals from Columbia County and throughout the surrounding region," Governor Pataki said. "The Hudson River Valley and the Kinderhook Creek are both environmental treasures, and this new park will further our efforts to protect and enhance these treasures so that they can be enjoyed by local residents for generations to come.”

The odd thing, when you visit the preserve is that the trail, as far as I can tell, is far from 2 miles in length. And the preserve does not seem well planned out as the feeling of trespassing often entered my thoughts. It feels as though the money was there, the town took the bait, and made a preserve, then kinda forgot about it. Let me know what you think. Don’t be deceived by the gravel path that leads you up a hill…if you follow it that far, you will see what I mean.

What you will be looking for is a large ammo box. My readings were not the best and the coordinates listed were at an accuracy of about 20'-30'. But how hard can a large ammo box be to find?!?!

Pachaquack AKA “The Meeting Place”…a bit of history that feels forced…
