A fun event name for a day of caching fun is planned for Sunday, 30
April 2006, Noon till 5PM.
This event has been created as an opportunity for cachers new and
been there to get together for a "Meet and Greet".
The park is located 7 miles south of Alvin, TX (along SR35) and was
once a Boy Scout camp now converted to a county park.
We invite everyone to bring their own food and drinks (picnic
style) and join us at the pavilion where there are plenty of picnic
tables.
There are a few of the campsite style BBQ grills in the general
area.
If you plan on fresh cooked burgers or hotdogs, you may find some
of these available or bring your own grill.
You might want to bring your own lounge chairs too.
We will provide ice tea, water and lemonade to share.
Alcohol is not permitted at the event so leave your moonshine at
home.
There are several caches in the area and more are being placed in
the park.
The park has a huge new playground close to the pavilion for the
kids.
There are some special geocache games planned for us.
We even hear there are some twins that are a Travel Bug. Catch them
and you can log them.
We will keep you posted as more plans develop, so put this event in
your watchlist and let us know if you will be attending.
Dont buy gas at the stations near the park.
The price is way too high.
You will find better prices at the intersection of FM517 and SR35
as well as SR6 and SR35.
New Additions:
Ugly Golf Ball Contest
Bring the nastiest, most cut up, and/or pathetic golf ball that you
have found in a cache (no cheating!) and enter it to win a
special prize.
If you enter a particularly miserable example of the genre, be sure
to be prepared to tell us what cache you found it in and what you
traded for it.
(Hint: The winner may be judged on how well the story is presented
as well as the pitiful state of the ball.)
Special prize will be awarded to the winner.
Ground Zero
This is a neat little game that uses your GPS to play.
Details will be given at game time.
A prize awaits the winner.
Group Photo
Just prior to the Ground Zero Game we will be setting up for a
group photo. Please try to be in the shot since it is important for
us to have everyone attending in it.
POST-EVENT
INFORMATION
If you have lost, found or just need a note posted here,
send an email to ATMA.
1. We found a walking stick that is made
from a wooden yard stick. It is pretty nice and am sure the owner
would like to have it back. ATMA
Owner Has Been Located
And HC, ATMA Has Your Walking Stick.
2. I think we have a goodie bag and 2 chairs
that belong to team georeynozos. Please ring us at the number given
below to get them back. ATMA
Contact has been made with the owners and items will be returned
soon.
3. The phone number on our cache cards that
some of you have is wrong. It should be 281/910-0783 so please make
the change on that. ATMA
4. Somehow, my wide angle lens was placed into the door prize box
and was lost. PLEASE check your belongings because this lens is
very important to me. Someone picked it up. It is a Sony lens and
is a large hunk of glass about the diameter of a CD. It is in a
black bag that looks like a CD case and is pretty heavy. I would
really like to have this back. Please call me at the number listed
in line 3 and I will be right up to get it. ATMA
GREAT
NEWS! The lens has been returned. It appeared right in the middle
of the front porch this morning and I thank whoever returned it for
doing so. This made my day.
5. Congratulations to Billy H & Carolyn on
their 1000th find today.
6. Also a big "Way To Go" goes out to JoyRose
on their 1000th find at the event.
7. Houston Control logged the event as his find
500!
8. Parkerplus called his 500th find at the
event too!
9. Muddie Buddies hit an even 2400 today. Way
to go.
10. We are looking for copies of your digital
photos taken at the event. If you would like to share them, that
would be fantastic! You can go to www.Walgreens.com and sign up for
a free account that will allow you to share your photos in full
size with others. Please include ATMA in the share. You may even
post the link to yours as a NOTE on this site so others attending
can enjoy them.
11. Thanks to Houston Control for making the DVD slide show play
even though there was no power run to the pavillion.
12. There is a new function that GC.com does now. It is called
"Discovered It" and
eliminates the note entries into an event page when dropping bugs.
Rather than posting coin drops, just use the "Discovered It"
function and it doesnt send a drop note to the log. This is really
cool and it works too. I will be deleting a bunch of drop notes
from the event to clean up the entries. Hopefully this wont mess
anything up.
