"Mad Mares Neck" About the eastern shores of Great Quitticus and Pocksha ponds, in the early days, a wild horse roamed, injuring the crops of many farmers,and from this the place takes its name. On the opposite shore lies Betty's Neck. Mad Mares Neck is beautifully situated on the high land which commands an extensive view of the ponds in Middleborough,Lakeville and Rochester,including the whole of the twelve men's purchase (june,30 1672) and portions of the sixteen shilling (may 14, 1675) and snipituit purchases (july 23, 1673).All land purchases from the Wampanoags, Tispaquin and son, to the white settlers.
O.K. there's your quick history lesson on your location now on to the cache! First off let me say this is another area(s) where it's recommended to bring a lunch and binoculars and sit back and soak in the area(s) while you're there!
From the parking proceed to N41*47.722 W070*53.108. once there you will see something with letters and numbers on it. On the side with an M look closely and add all three of the numbers.(hint..one of the numbers that is difficult to read is 65) First take the sum and subtract it from 815 to get the last three digits of the longitude N41*47.??? Second, take the same sum and subtract it from 310 to get the last three digits of the latitude W070*53.0??. now armed with the cache coordinates you can either go back up the trail a bit(easiest) and proceed,or bushwhack. You can bushwhack all the way(most difficult) or as we like to do ,go to the top of the ridge and follow it back to the trail(not to bad) and go fromm there.
The cache is in a small wood filler container and hidden pretty good. so expect a bit of a challenge in finding it! if you're succesful,please be sure to put it well back where you found it. small swag only and you may want to bring a pencil just in case.
