Urban Oasis - Beaver Tower Traditional Cache

This cache has been archived.

Lovejoy: I dropped by this morning to replace the cache and found that the planter area had been heavily searched and uprooted. After two and a half years and 302 finds, it's time to put this cache to rest and open up the area to new caches.

For those of you who are still wondering about the aha! moment, you needed to find the external staircase to the south of Purple restaurant to get up to this downtown viewpoint.

Thanks to all who have shared their experiences and assisted with maintenance on this Urban Oasis!

Geocache Description:

This cache is the next in the Orban Oasis series, where you can step above the rat race to watch the world go by. It is also part of the 'Art and Architecture in Downtown Seattle' series.

Please be discrete; many office windows overlook you. Before you go, it might make sense to do some homework, since your GPS receiver may have trouble with the urban canyons of downtown.

This urban oasis is on the site of the original University of Washington in downtown Seattle. It is in direct view of a 40-story building which was designed by Seattle's Minoru Yamasaki, who was probably best known for the architecture of the World Trade Center towers.

Why are the windows so narrow? Yamasaki had a slight fear of heights, and this pervaded his design. Why does this building look like a beaver chewed on the base? Go see for yourself! While you are there, also check out the ornate carvings on the adjacent buildings. One example is the stylized Indian chief's face in full headdress on the nearby Cobb Building, which belongs to the National Register of Historic Places. Another from the Register (and even closer to the cache) is the Northern Life Tower.

Note: no digging or destruction is necessary - you can reach for this cache by sitting down to take a picture of Rainier Tower, and the hint even tells where to sit. Please return it exactly where the hint specifies.

By the way, if you do not have an 'Aha!' moment, then you're probably not searching in the correct place, as some of the frustrated loggers below can attest.
