Geocache Description:

Lonley is a traditional cache in a .50 cal ammo can hidden in terrain and vegetation typical of a military housing area of historic Fort Ord.

Lonley is a nice & easy, fun cache located on the historic Fort Ord in an area that is now part of the Presidio of Monterey Annex/Ord Military Community. Lonley is a .50 cal ammo can hidden in the terrain typical of much of Fort Ord's family housing areas. In July 2008, I adopted the cache and will continue to take care of Lonley and keep it stocked with little trade items or "treasures" for cachers and kids to collect, as this is a good cache for families and younger geocachers as well as anyone else. If the cache needs any attention, please send me a quick note. I hope you enjoy Lonley.

A bit of history: Fort Ord began its long history in 1917 as Camp Gigling, an infantry training base. In 1939, it was designated as Camp Ord, then Fort Ord in 1940. Fort Ord was a vital base through WWII and until September 1994 when most of the base (about 95%) was closed, leaving the present 785 acre POM Annex and the 12-acre Reserve Center located by the old Imjin Gate/Fritsche Army Airfield.

Original "pre-adoption" Description by Johnny Cache:

One day I went a-caching the whole entire day.
When I finaly headed home, my wife had gone away.
She took all of my money
she took all of my creditcards
She took both the kids, and left the dog in the yard.
She said she would come back to me,
and I wouldn't be all alone
If i did one simple thing....

Plant a cache near my home.

The cache is a 7.62 mm ammo box hidden in a residential area on Ft Ord, so watch for kids and animals. Thee is parking within 500 ft of the cache. Original cache contents consists of odds and ends I've picked up from other caches, a logbook and pen , hide card and a CPU Video game for FTF Pize. Good luck and happy hunting
