Geocache Description:

Quick park and grab micro near a bridge with a nice view to the north.

This cache isn't in the prettiest area of town, but it is very close to one of my favorite views from town. It's not the safest thing to do, but I usually find myself stealing a glance north as I drive over the bridge nearest to this cache. The cache is named "Blue View" because, when the weather is right, the Blue Ridge Mountains can be clearly seen from the bridge. When the weather isn't as cooperative, you can only see the blue haze in the distance.

This cache should be a pretty simple park and grab. It is on a busy street and may be in view of a business, so look around and be stealthy before grabbing this one. Due to the close proximity to traffic, you will want to watch your kids if you cache with them. After grabbing the cache, you may want to check out the view from the nearby bridge.

So, on a clear day, what are you looking at from this area? Sauratown Mountain is the nearest mountain on the left. It rises about 1300' above the plateau around it (total height is ~2300'. The low mountain to the right of the gap is Rueben Mountain. Cook's Wall (2300') can be seen on the next high mountain (obscured by the tree in the picture used here). Just slightly beyond Cooks Wall, and to the right is Moore's Knob (~2500'). The higher mountains are about 18 miles away from this point.

The Blue Ridge Mountains are visible further back through the gap between the larger mountains. From this point they are about 37 miles away. Stuart, Virginia lies at the base of the Blue Ridge beyond the right of the opening between the nearer mountains, and Meadows of Dan lies a few miles beyond the ridge. In this area, the Dan River drops out of the Virginia Mountains for its brief run through North Carolina. It actually flows to a few miles southeast of Moore's Knob before turning back toward Virginia.

There is an unactivated generic micro geocoin as a FTF prize in the cache container.
