Geocache Description:

An active pocket park in Wareham Village with limited parking and some benches.

Besse Park Sport Fishing Pier 41 45.380 070 42.759

Besse Park abuts the Wareham River Sport Fishing Pier which provides a fishing area for recreational anglers - barrier free. Striped bass, bluefish and fluke are the main catch.
Here the Wankinco River and the Agawam River join to become the Wareham River flowing out into Buzzards Bay.

The Wareham Bicentennial Commission located a Time Capsule here on 6 July 1975 which will be opened on 6 July 2075.

The Captain John Kendrick Maritime Museum (circa 1745) is located across Main Street and is open for tours July & August. This House was purchased by Captain John Kendrick in 1778. Kendrick led an expedition to China in 1787 and opened up the lucrative China Trade for tea, silks and ceramics. He was also the first American to attempt trade with Japan. The museum contains furnishings from the 18th and 19th century, textiles, costumes, Maritime paintings, and a model of the schooner "Ernestina", which served as a packet ship for many years sailing between the U.S. and Cape Verdean islands.

You may also find the Nantucket Lighthouse Ship moored in the harbor.
