Geocache Description:

Fast multi starting just outside of the First Town Cemetery in Littleton.

The cemetery is located on route 2A/110 in Littleton. Parking is available one street over on White Street. To find the final cache go to the listed coordinates and count the number of names on the plague. Multiply this number by 15 to get the amount of feet you have to walk. Then count ALL the vertical metal bars on the gate in front of you. Multiply that number by 11 (updated 4/29/06) to get the bearing you will need to take. The bearing should be taken from the coords above. The final cache is a bison container with cammo tape. Bring your own pencil and please cover up well when done. The final is within easy walking distance. If you find the bearing to be off, please let me know, but the clue should point you in the right direction if you are stumped.

This cache was originally supposed to be a traditional cache within the cemetery, but we were unable to secure permission to place the cache where we wanted. The Old Burying Ground is easy to miss as it looks fairly small from the street, but it actually goes back further than you would think. Although you do not have to enter the cemetery for any part of the cache I recommend you take a few minutes to stroll around the grounds and check out the different artwork on the gravestones and see some local historic names you might recognize. The point of the cache is to bring you to some otherwise ignored, but interesting, landmarks.

First Town Cemetery was established in 1721. Prior to this families had their own burial plots or tombs. It was voted to build the surrounding stonewall in 1748. The first town ministers, the Reverend Benjamin Shattuck and Daniel Rogers lie here. It is also the last resting place of many local Revolutionary War heroes.
