Geocache Description:

This is a simple drive by to break up the drive and show our taxes at work in a good way.

20+ years ago when Mark was driving interstate trucks he knew every state had a dangerous section of roadway.
For the truck driver doing the Adelaide run, this was one of those places.
Driving west at the speed limit in a vehicle in excess of 40 tonnes, the corner before this bridge kept you on your toes as you had to guide the truck around the long sweeping bend which ended at a narrow rail overpass, known to truck drivers as the “Hole in the Wall”.
Every now and then the CB would crackle out "East bound hole in the wall" this really made you snap to attention as you knew you could meet another 40 tonne missile coming from the opposite direction through this narrow cutting. (travelling east was not quite as bad as the road straightened up just before the bridge, giving the driver far more control)
The bridge also had height restrictions forcing large vehicles to detour over an uncontrolled level crossing.

With the introduction of B Doubles into Victoria, these being up to 26m long and weighing up to 62.5 ton, the government allotted 6.1 million dollars to build the Armstrong over pass during 2002-03 and possibly averted a major catastrophe

The cache is now a 400ml sistema.

We hope you enjoy your search
