Emmanuel Church's cornerstone was laid in 1897 in Phoebus. The name "Emmanuel" meaning "God with us" was chosen. Much of its interior work including the beamed arches, and pews, was done by Native American students at Hampton University. Some of these furnishings, including the altar table and font, are still in use today. In 1950, a Parish Day School was founded. By 1954, 170 students were enrolled. The day school continued until 1974. In 1955 property on Military Road (later to become Mercury Blvd.) was purchased, and the present parish hall was dedicated in 1958. The sanctuary was completed in 1965, and in 1981 an educational wing was added. In 1997 Emmanuel celebrated its Centennial with year-long celebrations.

All caches are on the property of Episcopal churches in the Tidewater area. I secured permission from the Rector to place this cache on Emmanuel's property. However, there could be muggles present here, particularly on Sunday morning.
This cache is a 6 inch square plastic camo'd container. Please replace and conceal the cache after you find it.
