It just so happens (true story) that we had a visitor from Texas a few months ago who exclaimed upon passing by... "Hey, somebody done got a rat-tan umbrella stuck up there on top o' that pole!"
So it was politely explained that, "Actually, it's an osprey nest, and that's just how they build their homes!"
This nest is active, and it's neat to watch the family in action. There's no need to get too close - keep your distance, and everyone stays happy.
