Hiker's Rest Traditional Cache

Update: 2020 As this one gives cachers trouble from time-to-time decided to give a bit of back story. Once a store for avid hikers stood here called "The Happy Hiker". Sadly, now it is a parking lot. Appalachian Trail hikers and hiking enthusiasts could take their ease and shop for needed equipment or talk with experienced hikers before hitting the nearby trail and trails beyond. Saddened to see this treasure go we kept the homage for “Hikers Rest”.
This I've spent many a day here. Mostly wishing and dreaming about things I'd like to do some day. If you come by sometime in April, May, June, or July, you may see AT thru hikers passing the time waiting on a shuttle back to the AT at Newfound Gap or waiting to go to a local motel for a much needed shower, some rest, and some real food. They can be a pretty grubby looking bunch, but I guess you would look that way too if you just came off a mountain and had been hiking for 3-4 weeks with your house on your back! They are a pretty friendly bunch though, so don't let their odorous aroma and scraggly appearance scare you away.
