Sodwana Bay is situated some 300km North of
Durban on South Africa's East Coast. It is enclosed within
the Greater St Lucia Wetland Park, which is South
Africa's first declared World Heritage Site.

JESSER POINT - main beach & launch
site
Sodwana Bay is named after an isolated
stream known to the local tribes as Sodwana (little one on its
own). Universally known as "Sordies" by all who love the place,
this small park consists of a narrow coastal strip of forested sand
dunes. It was proclaimed in 1950 and is an angler’s paradise.
Although in a fairly remote area, divers come from afar to enjoy
the fabulous coral reefs teeming with colourful fish and those
giants of the sea, the whale sharks and manta rays. Camping out in
the tropical hot humid summers and warm winters is a lovely way to
spend a holiday. There are the occasional antelope in the coastal
forests and a wealth of birdlife in the trees and air. The cache is
placed in an area not often frequented by visitors to the park.
Notwithstanding that over one million scuba dives are
launched from the beach annually, the
rocky and coral reefs are in good condition. Several
dive concessions offer comfortable
accommodation, equipment hire & dive charters
