Geocache Description:

Two mile hike on a very good trail to a completely undeveloped pond. This is our eighth remote pond cache.

Take I89 to exit 14 from the north, or 13 from the south. Park at 43 34.034N, 72 09.095W. The trail starts at the orange gate here. This is a favorite hike or ski, as the road is excellent and we always find lots of animal tracks to examine. This trail is part of the extensive snow mobile system in the area, although I do not believe snowmobiles, ATV's etc can enter the system from the parking coordinates given. The trail was muddier than I have ever seen it today, March 31st.

The coordinates given are for a memorial plaque placed by the Western Association of Leavitt families in 2000. Although not much more than stone walls remains now, the Leavitts farmed here for many years and went on to found Leavitt Kansas. The ammo can is not far away.

Cache coordinates: 43 33.XXX North, 72 10.3XX West. To find the last three digits of the north coordinates take the day of the month when the plaque was placed and multiply it by the number of years mentioned on the plaque. To find the last two digits of the west coordinates add the number of years mentioned and the number of the month in which it was placed.

Have a great hike! Hope you like this special place!
