Geocache Description:

A nice 20-minute walk to a beautiful spot for swimming, trout fishing, turtle watching and cache finding on Texada Island.

Directions: From the ferry landing at Blubber Bay drive 9kms to a stop sign. At this point go straight ahead onto the gravel Legion Road. Drive past the Cenotaph, down the hill and park at N 49 45.210 W 124 33.139. You could drive up the narrow dirt road leading toward the cache with a small 4 wheel drive vehicle but it is much more pleasant as a walk. The road eventually becomes a trail and this is where one or two cachers out of the twenty or so to find it to date have had some navigation problems. The main trail leaves the road, crosses the creek and goes along the north side of the lake - this is not the way to the cache. You want to trust your GPS and head up the road going straight at the one kinda four way junction until it becomes a trail that leads to the East shore of the lake. We have put orange flagging on this trail (renewed April '09). There are some short steep sections towards the end of the hike but it is suitable for children and dogs. AT NO POINT DO YOU NEED TO BUSHWACK. There is a distinct trail leading right to the cache. Really, its not that hard, and it is supposed to be a search, right? The cache is a grey Lock & Lock container.

The first part of the route was originally the tram way for the Cornell Mine that helped fuel Van Anda’s gold rush at the turn of the century. The mine was staked in 1898, the tram way built in 1899 and by 1908 40 men were working it in two shifts for gold, copper and silver. By 1919 The Cornell Mine and most of the other mines on Texada had closed.
