The British Columbia Transmission Corporation (BCTC) is planning
to completely replace a 138kV / 50MW high voltage transmission line
with a 230kV / 1200MW line to provide power to Vancouver Island. It
is a part of a major (approx. $600 million) project to increase the
electrical energy capacity and reliability to Vancouver Island.
They plan to use their existing right of way of which 4 km passes
through a densely populated area in Tsawwassen, over the back yards
of about 140 residents (<25 feet from their houses), over the
South Delta Secondary School property, a daycare, extended health
care facility and several parks.
Come take a walk
through a nice little hillside park that is in this right of
way. The park has nice open grass play area, playground for
the kids, park benches for you to sit and ponder (or listen to the
existing power lines hum) and paved walkways through the manicured
gardens. The coordinates will take you to the location of a
micro cache. Within the micro are the coordinates to the
final cache location, a 6" x 6" x 2" Lock & Lock containing the
usual goodies. This is a relatively easy hunt once you find
the micro although the walk to the final location will be much
easier than the walk back to where you started.
The cache has not been replaced as found by someone,
please put it back as you found it! I have moved it slightly
from the original location, approx. 1-1.5m south of the final
coordinates listed in the micro. You do not have to bushwack
(read: Please stay out of any of the gardens and private
landscaping in the area). You will be able to reach the cache
from a designated path, please stay out of the gardens, there has
been some trampling.
Feel free to leave
your thoughts about the proposed upgrade of the transmission lines
in your log entry.
Good Luck, Happy
Hunting,
~Team
