Geocache Description:

An Earth Day morning CITO at the beach at Davenport in Santa Cruz County

Let's celebrate Earth Day and give back to Mother Earth by cleaning up a little.

As an Environmental, Health and Safety Manager, I'm a little disappointed to see that there have not been any Earth Day "Cache In Trash Out" events scheduled for the Bay Area or the Central Coast. So I decided that I would take it upon myself to address this opportunity!

Please join me for an Earth Day morning "Cache In Trash Out" at the beach in Davenport, CA. The beach at Davenport is a favorite place for overnight campers and parties, and as it a result it tends to look - well - trashed!

We can meet at the Whale City Bakery, Bar and Grill in Davenport. Once assembled, we can march across the street for a clean up effort at the beach.

The earlier, the better. Tentative plans: let's meet at "8-ish" at the cafe and start the clean-up at 8:30 a.m.

Please feel free to contact me with any suggestions. I will try to bring plastic bags for the clean-up effort.

Please consider bringing work gloves or latex gloves for hand protection for the clean-up. Feel free to bring plastic bags as well. I also recommend utility pails (1-2 gallon size) with handles.

For the trail to and from the beach, plan to wear shoes or tevas that provide good traction.

We will be able to take any recyclable materials and household hazardous wastes that we collect to the City of Santa Cruz Recycling Center at the City Landfill on Dimeo Lane. I am finalizing plans for the disposal of the trash that we will collect. Pickup trucks are welcome as we will probably be running the stuff we collect to the Dimeo Lane landfill ourselves.

Look forward to seeing you Saturday morning!

Enjoy! And happy caching!
