Back in the early 1990', a group of us started what has now
become known as "The Thurday Hikers". Fluffy was one of the
original members.
A few years later Glen Cantrell joined the group. Glen and his
family, grew up in what is now the Great Smoky Mountains National
Park. Specifically, in the Greenbriar area not too far from
here.
If you ever had the privilige to hike in the Smoky's with Glen,
you would come away with a wealth of knowledge about the area and
how the people lived "back when".
Back in 1996, Glen built this footbridge so we could easily get
across to the parking area because we were going to build a cabin
rental business there. You see Glen had once worked in the trail
maintenance dept. for the Great Smoky Mtns. He hand hewn it just
like they used to do when they built the ones in the Park.
Time has taken it's toll on the footbridge, but it is still
usable and on any given day you may see Glen sitting over in his
"tool shed" peering out at you while you look for the cache.
If you see him out, give him a wave. If you have time, sit down
and talk with him about days gone by. I promise you will come away
with a better understanding of how things were in these mountains
pre-National Park
If you are caching for a team that consists of more than one
geocaching account you must write the names of each cacher with
their own account on the log sheet or I will delete your log. I
hate to be this way but we have had a problem with this lately. If
your team name is for one account only then the team name is fine.
Thanks for following the cache rules. Happy Caching.
