The Perch Inn is a
traditional thatched ale house dating from the 13th century, and
takes its name from the Perch fish caught locally in the Thames
river. Although suffering two fires in 1956 and again in 1976,
The Perch still retains its higgledy piggeldy charm as well as
many of its original features such as flag stone floors, large
open fireplace and oak beams, with extensive gardens to the
rear. The pub is located in the sleepy village of Binsey, to the
north west of Oxford city, just off of the River Thames. It can
be found along a narrow lane about 1 mile to the north of the
Botley Road (A420); turning at N51 45.133, W001
16.628.

It has a very large
garden with some lovely mature willows, a children's adventure play
area, access to the River Thames and its footpaths into nearby
Oxford, and a simple rustic feel inside. It is a family and dog
friendly pub (dogs outside only please) with reasonably priced food
and drink all served by friendly staff, and for those wishing to
bring their own food and drink their is plenty of space just
outside the pub, by the river for a picnic It is located just over
a mile walking/cycling distance from Oxford's city centre making it
an ideal location for bagging all those Oxford City centre caches,
whilst not having to worry about parking the car. Their are over 40
caches within 2 miles, 70 within 5 miles and an extraordinary 130
within 10 miles (use postcode OX2 0NG for your searches). All this
has all the requisites for a fantastic afternoon of caching, or why
not stop the weekend and make the most of this opportunity. If you
want info on camping, B&B or hotels, email me and I'll try and
sort out some info for you.

The pub does have WiFi
via "The Cloud" which I believe is quite expensive, but the
landlady did say she was hoping to have a personal WiFi connection
which she said we would be welcome to use if it's ready. I shall
probably have my notebook PC with me on the day along with leads
and software for a Magalen Sportrak, a Garmin USB and an iPAQ 3630
(probably suit other models as well), so I should be able to
provide an upload service for GPSr's (bring a cable if mine are not
suitable) for all new and existing caches in the area.
As promised I have
now added a link to the
menu, but their is no need to let me know what you would like
to eat, it is just for your info so you know what is available and
how much it costs.
If you are planning
to come to this event, could you please log your intent here so
that I can give the landlady of the Perch an idea of numbers to
expect. Thanks for your co-operation.
The raffle for Mountain Rescue England and
Wales raised £101, well done everyone.
