This park area was at one time destined for development as an Olympic stadium. It was also one of three sites chosen by Council as a package within Brisbane's unsuccessful 1978 Commonwealth Games bid. In 1987 Council approved that the vacant old quarry site north of the smaller creek be incorporated as parkland for provision of additional public recreation facilities.
