BUFFALO SOLDIERS
Our Military post, Fort Hale, and it’s Buffalo Soldiers.
The Fort Hale Military Post of “Buffalo Soldiers” (Black Regiment) was established in 1872, 20 miles up-river (NE of Oacoma, South Dakota) to protect the settlers who were invading Indian Territory. The fort was named after General Hale of Civil War fame. The fort was evacuated in 1883 once the hostilities were settled. If you’re quiet and the prairie breeze is just right you can still hear them thundering across the rolling hills!
The cache is in an ammo can, shouldn’t be too hard to find. Fishermen and others use this area so you might want to be somewhat stealthy. Do bring fishing gear, lots of places to shore fish.
Cache original contents: OFF! Towelettes, Frog Lure, Popper Lure, 2 packs AA Batts. Keyrings (one w/whistle), 2 Address books, Plastic Bugs, Mini Vivi Doll, Bicycle Mirror, 2 Toy Motorcycles (was going to put in a Vstar but wife said that would be a bit much), 2 extra Ziplock bags & 2 Trash bags.
