Geocache Description:

A walk on the wild side.

Pemulwuy was a Bidigal warrior and aboriginal resistance leader who waged guerrilla war on the colony as it spread from Sydney Cove.

The war began in December 1790 when he speared John McEntire, Governor Philips game shooter. McEntire collapsed and died on 20 January, 1791.

Over the next 12 years, Pemulwuy led attacks at Parramatta, Prospect, Toongabbie and Brickfield Hill.

In 1801 Governor King declared Pemulway an outlaw and offered a reward for his capture dead or alive. He also issued orders that the Aborigines of Parramatta, Georges River and Prospect districts be fired on at sight.

Pemulwuy was shot in October 1802  his head was amputated, preserved in spirits and sent to Sir Joseph Banks in London for ‘research’

Depending on the route you take, you may pass an aboriginal shelter. Please don't disturb it any more than it has been.
