This is the location of what was to be the extension of the Allen
Expressway, south from Eglinton to the downtown core. Opposition to
the expressway was made the main issue of the November 1969
municipal election, and luckily the expressway terminates at
Eglinton. The Spadina subway line, however, does travel beneath the
ravine, and there is an emergency exit, surrounded by rocks, at one
point on the trail, where one can hear the subway cars screeching
along. The topography in this park and its ravines has been
profoundly altered by the construction of the subway, and the
Spadina Storm Trunk Sewer which runs under it, but it is still a
beautiful spot in the City, one that is heavily used by dog
walkers, nature enthusiasts and joggers. As a young lad, I myself
would often tobogann down the Heathdale and Strathearn hills.
Each of the stages directs you to the subsequent stage (first
stage is at the posted coordinates). The final stage is a smallish
container with a log and small pencil (some room for small trading
items/travel bugs). Note that all coordinates given at each stage
are clearly identified (no guessing or calculations required). And
all stages are on PUBLIC property - no need to be traipsing around
private property owners' backyards, sideyards, fence areas, etc.
Please replace the caches exactly as you've found them, and be on
the lookout for muggles and their evil stares.
For those of you who hate downtown Toronto caching, this is NOT
downtown, so don't be afraid. There is plenty of FREE parking at
the many trail entrances. The cache is also very accessible by
transit; either St. Clair West Stn (Heath exit) or Eglinton West
Stn will put you closeby.
Betcha didn't know that Ernest Hemingway used to horseback ride
down in this ravine.
Another cache, Lord Bathurst (GC33AE), is in the immediate area
(two for the price of one!).
