Along the Western Powerline Trail and
next to Vaughn Park (hours are 6:00 a.m. – 10:00 p.m.) is our first
regular sized cache! We've been searching for a good location to
place a regular sized container because we figured the East Valley
could use a few more. We thought we found some good places to hide
it in Vaughn Park, but it turned out that all of the good places
were too close to the railroad tracks, so we settled for the trail
just outside the park.
We actually found the park when we were
hunting for benchmarks. There’s one nearby (DU0766 “BM”) that was first recorded in 1934. If you
want to visit the benchmark you should use our posted coordinates
(N 33° 21.428 W 111° 47.796 (NAD 83)). It’s just down the trail
before the railroad tracks on top of the concrete culvert.
On to the cache! You're looking for a
camo'ed container that, because of its size, should be a fairly
easy find. There should be a writing instrument in the container.
Please note that the trail is frequented by joggers, bike riders,
etc. so please use some stealth as we would hate to see this one go
missing.
Note that the area is very dark and not
lit at night. Also note that access to the cache location and the
area where the cache is placed can get muddy after we get some
rain.
Parking is available at the end of
Vaughn Ave., at the entrance to the park.
There's a water fountain in the
Northwest corner of the park and some benches under the trees in
the same area.
A note about the SWAG – we placed some
duplicates of some SWAG items in separate plastic bags to keep them
fresh and to help reduce our maintenance trips. We didn’t intend
for finders to take an entire bag of individual items! Please
remember to trade even/up and don’t take a complete bag of items.
Thanks.
