Fred Thirteen Traditional Cache

This cache has been archived.

nekom: This was my very first cache placed, and as much as I really hate to do it, it's time to archive this one. The high road' approach is atrociously overgrown, thelow road' is not a good idea, and even my alternate approach is overgrown. This cache will continue to physically exist until the end of the year, so anyone who really wants to find it, feel free to do so and your log will count. If you choose to seek this cache, consider the original terrain rating null and void, it's a jungle of thorns there.

FIrst of the year I will remove this cache and any travel bugs or other trackables will be placed in nearby caches. Anyone who seeks it between now and then, please feel free to take any and all trackables and please DO NOT place any more in this cache.

Geocache Description:

The old home of a mysterious man. There may be a bit of a hill involved, depending on your approach, and the area is likely to become a bit overgrown in the summer months.

The cache is an ammo can in the remnants of an old stone home once occupied (so the legend goes) by a mysterious man known only as "Fred Thirteen". It was originally stocked with a little something for everyone.

As has been noted in some of the logs:
- Approaching from the South will get you close. Still a hill, and watch for mud, but not far if you find the ideal parking location.
- Approaching from the North, you might see some mine/coke oven remains, but it will be a much longer hike, and will up the terrain rating to about a 3.5 or 4. If you do this, of course beware the railroad tracks. UPDATE: The old mine shaft (which had been caved in 30 feet in or so) has now been bulldozed over. There are still some coke ovens, however there are dump trucks taking fly ash up on the hill, so this approach may no longer be advisable.
- If you are approaching from Greene county, you might enjoy taking the Fredricktown ferry (toll is about $1.50), but worth it if you've never rode it.
