Geocache Description:

Twin Peaks: Muir Sisters

Dingo and I took advantage of the break in the rain to take a pleasant stroll through Mt. Wanda today. The trails were in fine condition, and the hills alive and green, with wildflowers cropping up everywhere.

The two "peaks" in this area are named for John Muir's two daughters Wanda and Helen. I picked out the two highpoints using google earth, plugged them into the GPSr, and... would later be astonished at the accuracy of both waypoints.

In this case, Mount Helen is adorned with nothing more than a smale-scale mobile radio repeater site (which my pre-entered coords let me to precisely) - so I had to select a location slightly removed from the summit. I spotted the hiding spot from the top, and you should definitely take the few extra steps up there for the rewarding views.

You can see the summit from the cache site, as well as nice views of Mt. Diablo, a large eucalyptus grove across the canyon, and up into Briones (as well as a couple of pretty nice houses). As I was hiding the cache, there was a myriad of bird activity - from familiar red tailed hawks hunting overhead, to a variety of species I couldn't identify.

Imagine John Muir walking with his two daughters through this area, which (depending on your view), may have looked very similar to how it does today.
