Geocache Description:

RCAF Foymount Radar Station

This cache is placed on the site of the radar station at Foymount.

Foymount was part of the Pinetree line of radar stations established in the early stages of the Cold War. More information on this interesting site can be found on the Pinetree line website at: (visit link)

And for the Foymount station specifically at: (visit link)

The cache is placed where the radar domes used to be. See these aerial photos from 1962: (visit link) (visit link)

These photos will help you understand what you are seeing when you visit the cache site, as only the foundations remain of the structures that supported the radar domes.

There are many other photos and stories told by the people who served here. They sound like they enjoyed their time here and I've heard that many of the people who live in the houses that remain are retired members of the RCAF who had served at Foymount.

Enjoy the fantastic view from the cache location. The elevation here is 1728 feet. Foymount is considered to the the highest settlement in Southern Ontario.

The cache container is a camo'd peanut butter container. It contains a logbook, pencil and sharpener and goodies for all ages.

A word of caution: I would not let my dogs run loose on this site. There is a certain amount of debris from the buildings here and shoes are definitely required. Enjoy the view, and be careful.
