Geocache Description:

A rather difficult three stage cache located mainly in Standing Rock Cemetery. Bring bug spray.

Back in the days of old there was a man named Charles Baker. He was a fine young man, and as he was the first-born of five, he was first in line for the large inheritance of his father.

However, fate had a hand in his father's fortune, and one night the house was robbed, and every last gold piece was stolen. On top of that, the housekeeper was slain in her nightclothes. Now, the housekeeper had been one of Charles' greatest friends while he grew up, so he swore that one day he would seek revenge.

That was when he was nine. Then, years later, when he had just turned twenty, he was drinking in the local pub when he heard a whisper of a rumor that a terrible murderer had struck in a nearby village, killing four. Charles had a feeling that this killer was the same as the one who had slain his friend. In the dark of night, he packed a few things and stole out of the house, taking a horse to the other village.

He knew that he would not be able to find a killer by looking, so he planned to lay a trap to draw the killer to him. By morning, his trap was set, and he waited till dusk. His trap was simple: he would light a fire conspicuously atop a large rock he had found in the middle of a river. Anyone passing would see him, and if they were hostile, try to steal all his money. Three hours after midnight, the trap was sprung. His assailant was tall, and wore a cloak covering his face. In his hand he held a long, curved blade, which glinted menacingly in the moonlight. Charles struck: he jumped up and grabbed at the cloak of his enemy, while at the same time drawing a dagger from his belt. He was about to strike when he recognised the face of the assassin - it was his childhood sweetheart, Clara.

She had fallen in love those many years ago, and, in a fit of jealousy, slew the others close to Charles. Afterward, she nearly killed herself for what she had done, but her blade turned without spilling a drop of precious blood. Years later, she fell in love again, and repeated her foul deed.

Charles twisted away in shock upon seeing her face, but she was quick. Her blade sliced the back of his leg, but through his pain, he jumped from the rock to run into the woods. Clara, in a flash of realization, recognized him, and in a fit of hopelessness, turned her blade upon herself.

The moral of this tale is, don't believe everything you hear (or read).

Directions

Stage 1: Follow coordinates. Look at the plot marker of someone locally famous (you should recognize the name, even if you're from out of town):

a = day he died (2 digits).
b = how old he was in 1816 (1 digit).
c = number of months between the one he was born in and the one he died in (e.g. between Jan. and Feb. are 1)(1 digit).
d = number of letters in his last name (1 digit).
e = the day he was born (2 digits).
f = third digit in the year he was born (1 digit).
g = last two digits in the year he was born (2 digits).

Put these numbers together thus:

N 41 aa.bcd
W 081 ee.fgg

Go there. What you see before you has many names on it. To find the final stage, follow these instructions:

A = number of first names that start with X (1 digit).
B = number of letters in the 9th word from the top (1 digit).
C = number of letters in Westley's last name (1 digit).
D = number of words in the first two lines (1 digit).
E = number of letters in the 17th word from the top (1 digit).
F = decade in which the war these men fought in took place (e.g. 40s is #4)(1 digit).

Put these together, and find the final stage.

N 41 10.ABC
W 081 20.DEF

When you have found it, be sure to hide it just as well, otherwise it may be muggled again.

Many well known names can be found in the cemetery, especially some that many of the streets in the city have been named after. I found Haymaker and Fuller. If you find any others I missed, make a note of it in your log, with coordinates if possible, so others can see them as well.
