Elephant's Foot Multi-Cache
Please note Use of geocaching.com services is subject to the terms and conditions
in our disclaimer.
This is a very kid and stroller-friendly cache, located very close to a paved path in a seldom used portion of South Run Stream Valley Park. The nearby playground is highly rated by the HendyFam kids!
The coordinates take you to the "Elephant's Foot." When you find that, stand so the "RS Heart" is facing you at 12 o'clock. Then look about 40 feet in the direction of 2 o'clock, and you'll see where the cache is hidden. (This is why this cache is classified as a multi cache--the cache is not at the location of the coordinates. You go to where the coordinates take you and then follow the instructions.) There are some prickly bushes surrounding it, so watch out. The cache container is a green preform container. While there usually aren't many muggles around, be careful, because the cache location is quite visible from the path. Please take care when replacing the cache so it's not too visible to anyone just strolling by. For experienced cachers with no kids, this will probably turn out to be a "cache and dash." But if you have kids, you won't escape without a visit to the playground, so factor that into your timing! Keep your eyes open when you walk to the cache--we saw a den of baby foxes about a tenth of a mile in on the right, across the stream, when the cache was placed. This cache is being placed by the eldest HendyFam daughter, who is earning a geocaching Girl Scout badge for it. Because of this, the FTF prize includes a box of GS cookies (no, they're not right in the cache!), and there's a GS related TB starting out here. Other initial cache contents include goodies for everyone--compass, magnifying sheet, Hello Kitty container, yoyo, and several other items. Enjoy! Thanks to Fairfax County Parks for granting permission for this cache!
