SUGGESTED TOOLS FOR THE CACHE: A CALCULATOR. The hours of operation for stop 1 are:
MWFSat: 9a-5p, TuTh: 7a-7p, CLOSED SUNDAY
This is a mystery/multi-cache that will involve gathering several “number” clues around Paris to solve the final coordinates. All told the cache will probably take 30 to 45 minutes. Total walking distance is a little more than a quarter of a mile. The cache is a large ammo can. It is about 15-20 feet off the trail.
Please hide the cache container at least as well as you found it. Cover completely with pine needles. It has been muggled in the past
There are 3 stops before the final cache two of which you probably won’t even have to get out of your car. Each stop is related in some way to “media”. The final stash is also filled with media related items e.g. books, magazines, computer games, DVD’s. I have only 2 requests for the cache. Please stay within the theme of the cache (with the exception of travel bugs which are also welcome) and please keep all items family friendly.
To make it easier I’ve included blanks for you to fill in as you go along.
Stop 1: The coordinates listed for the cache are for the entrance for a public building. Go into the computer room. On the same wall as the doorway is a picture of the Scott Fitzhugh Memorial Bridge. Jot down the 2 dates. (date 1)earlier date _______ & (date 2) later date _______. If you know you are going on a day the public building is closed you can visit this link (visit link) but the second date is for some reason 1 year later than the picture in the public building so subtract 1 from the second date. There is also a plaque in the front lobby, with the name of the building and when it was built (you came in the back lobby). Jot down the years that construction began (date 3)_______ & ended (date 4)_______. This can be seen through the front doors of the library if the library is closed.
Stop 2: The coordinates are: N 36° 18.108, W 88° 19.427. Look for the date this media company was established (date 5)_______. It’s on a plaque on the front of the building. If you catch it driving by you can just pull into the parking lot to jot it down and won’t have to even get out of the car.
Stop 3: The coordinates are: N 36° 17.357, W 88° 18.549. Count the number of columns supporting the entrance to this media building_______.
Go to and park at N 36° 17.203, W 88° 18.124. There are several other caches in the park you may want to pick up before you go. This cache is in a new part of the park. You'll have to walk across the main road to the gravel walking trail. The coordinates for the actual cache are:
N 36° 17.1AB, W 88° 18.CDE
AB in the coordinates is the last 2 digits of (date 3)
Do the following calculations (I suggest you have someone check your calculations or you do it twice. There’s nothing more frustrating that finding out after you’ve looked for 30 minutes that you punched something in wrong.):
Date 4 – Date 5 =
Date 3 – Date 5 =
Date 2 – Date 5 =
Date 1 – Date 5 =
ADD these 4 results together and SUBTRACT the number of columns counted at the third stop. This is CDE in the coordinates.
If you've got time you may want to walk around the pond and inspect the beaver's handiwork. There are several trees they have felled. Feel free to post a picture if you spot one.
