Dalesman: This cache has been disabled for some time and as the owner has not responded to recent logs or logged into geocaching.com for some time I am archiving it.

Guidelines: "You are responsible for occasional visits to your cache to maintain proper working order, especially when someone reports a problem with the cache (missing, damaged, wet, etc.). You may temporarily disable your cache to let others know not to search for it until you have a chance to fix the problem. This feature is to allow you a reasonable amount of time - normally a few weeks - in which to check on your cache. If a cache is not being maintained, or has been temporarily disabled for an unreasonable length of time, we may archive the listing."

If you wish to email me please send your email via my profile (click on my name) and quote the cache name and number.

Many thanks,

Geocache Description:

Traditional cache along short woodland track on the banks of the Derwent near Kirkham Priory between York and Malton.

This traditional cache is hidden along a short woodland track running parallel to the banks of the River Derwent and is located within view of Kirkham Priory, one of our favourite local English Heritage Sites on the edge of the Yorkshire Wolds.

These ruins of an Augustinian priory include a gatehouse with the heraldry of the Roos family of Helmsley Castle. The site was visited in secret by Winston Churchill during World War II, and played a role in the preparations for D-Day because of the shape and slope of its riverbank.

The cache is located in the woods on the opposite (right) bank of the Derwent, along a lovely (but often muddy!) woodland path following the edge of the river.

The path can be busy, so please be discreet when returning the cache.
