Een mooie wandeling van krap 2 kilometer door een minder bekend gedeelte van de Utrechtse binnenstad. Deze eenvoudige cache is prima te combineren met één van de andere caches in de Utrechtse binnenstad.
Nice hike of almost 2 kilometers through a lesser known part of Utrecht city center. This simple cache can easily be combined with one of the other caches that you can find around here. You will find the English description of this cache if you scroll down.
De auto kan geparkeerd worden in de buurt van N52 05.014 E5 07.006. Dit is meteen het startpunt van de cache. Op zondag is parkeren gratis, maar op andere tijdstippen is het tot 23.00 uur betaald parkeren.
'Cache en Carry' is overigens ook prima te bereiken met het openbaar vervoer.

Op naar het volgende waypoint, dat je vindt op N52 05.(A + 256) E5 06.((B + 1) / 2 -22)
Wanneer je bij dit imposante gebouw staat, vergeet dan niet om te kijken naar het vreemde object dat zich hier op het dak bevindt.
Maar terug bij de les, we zijn op zoek naar een waypoint. In februari 1944 vond een spoorwegstaking plaats. Ter nagedachtenis daarvan is een standbeeld opgericht. Vind dit standbeeld en zoek op in welk jaar het is geplaatst.

Utrecht staat bekend om z'n vele kerken. Sommige gebouwen zijn onopvallend, andere kerken kent iedereen (hoe kun je de Dom missen in Utrecht). Een minder bekend kerk vind je bij waypoint 4. Uit welk jaar dateert deze kerk?

Verder wandelen nu, naar het vijfde waypoint: N52 0(B + C + D – 480) E5 07.0(C – D + 5)
Overnachten in Utrecht kan met elke beurs. Is je beurs goed gevuld, stop dan meteen bij waypoint 5 en check in. De minder bedeelden onder ons kijken eens goed naar dit voormalige militaire hospitaal en nemen goed de naam van dit gebouw in zich op. Welke Karel heeft zijn naam aan dit gebouw gegeven?

Tijdens het Festival van de oude muziek vormt dit gebouw een centraal punt bij de uitvoeringen. In welk jaar is het herstel van dit gebouw voltooid na een periode van ernstig verval?

En weer een waypoint verder... Waypoint 7 - N52 05.0(D – B – 8) E5 0(F * 4 – 579)
Met het zicht op wat in de volksmond de 'yuppenbrug' heet (bewoners van de in sommige ogen yuppenwijk aan de overkant van de Catharijnesingel steken de brug over richting Oudegracht / Twijnstraat om boodschappen te doen en doorkruisen daarbij een karakteristiek oud Utrechts wijkje) spoeden wij ons verder naar het laatste waypoint. Kijk goed om je heen naar een bordje aan de gevel van één van de woonhuizen. De oplossing van dit waypoint zit 'm in de naam van dit wijkje. Over hoeveel steegjes hebben wij het dan?

Continue your walk to waypoint 2 at N52 05.(192- A) E5 06.(919 +A). What do we see here? Something old between all those new office buildings? From what year are these old buildings? This year = B.

On we go to waypoint 3, which can be found at N52 05.(A + 256) E5 06.((B + 1) / 2 -22). Please look up to the roof of this curious building, which is called ‘the inkpot’ by the local population, to see an alien artifact. Back to business now, we are trying to find a cache! In February 1944 a railway strike was taking place. In memory of this a statue was erected. Locate the statue and note the year in which it was erected. This is C.

Time to continue your walk to waypoint 4 at N52 0(C * 3 – 527) E5 06.(C – 1000 + A + 13). Utrecht is known as a city with many churches. Some are very distinctive (who could miss the omnipresent Dom Church?) and some are a bit hidden. You will find a lesser known church at waypoint 4. From which year is this church? This year is D.

Onward now to waypoint 5 at N52 0(B + C + D – 480) E5 07.0(C – D + 5) If you are looking for a place to stay in Utrecht, there is something for every budget. Is your wallet particularly well filled, stop and check in at the hotel where you are now. The less fortunate take a close look at this former military hospital and note the name. Which ‘Karel’ gave its name to this building? This number is E.

Your journey progresses smoothly. Waypoint 6 is not far: N52 05.0(E * 15) E5 07.(A * 10 + 18). During the yearly Festival for old music this building is the center of the performances. In which year was the restoration of this building completed after a period of decay? This number is F.

The last waypoint, you’ve almost made it! Waypoint 7 can be found at: N52 05.0(D – B – 8) E5 0(F * 4 – 579) From here you can see the ‘yuppie’s bridge’. The locals gave it this nickname, because people from a well-to-do block cross this bridge for their groceries and pass a typical working class block enroute. You are looking for a sign at one of the housefronts. The clue for this waypoint is in the name of this typical working class block. Look for a clue concerning the number of ‘steegjes’, alleys. This number is G.
