Geocache Description:

This cache is located on the hill slopes above Harlech. This upland area contains a wealth of well-preserved archaeological monuments. The Moel Goedog group appears to be deliberately positioned along a track defined by standing stones, possibly an ‘avenue’ which leads between ring cairns, one of which has produced evidence of much ceremonial as well as funerary activities and a range of dates between about 2000-1750BC.

It is best reached by the road out of Llanfair that follows the ridge to Llandecwyn. Park at N52.52.019/W004.04.316 and walk up the track following the standing stones. It can form part of a wonderful circular trek around the foot of the settlement following the footpath signs, returning via Llyn y Fedw.

The views on clear days are magnificent with Tremadog Bay, Portmeirion and Snowdon part of the panoramic scene.

The cache is a circular plastic box within a waterproof drawstring bag. Our experiences of other caches in the area has been disappointing to find them waterlogged and we have tried to ensure it remains dry.

When placed it contained; a BMW M3, 5 coloured marbles, a DVD England 5 Germany 1, a set of golfing bits, an Animal stencil, plasters, a ‘Westie’ figure and our first TB.
