A short multi-cache taking in some "buried" history of the past, at the Burkes Creek (or Reefton) Cemetery on State Highway 69 - from Reefton to Inangahua Junction. Could easily be completed in 30 - 45 minutes.
The co-ordinates are the starting point only.
The inscriptions on the graves will give the clues required to complete the final stash co-ordinates, situated at: S42deg 05.1B1' E171deg 50.A5C'
The initial co-ordinates will take you to an unusual object in a tree. It is slowly rusting away, and one would wonder how it got there??
At this point, you are looking for a silver coloured disk which will give you the final digit to complete the co-ordinates to go to:
S42deg 05.12_'
E171deg 50.826'
James BOLITHO
One of the many Bolitho family members involved in gold mining in the Reefton Area, and later involved with the School of Mines in Reefton - which emphasised coal-mining.
James Bolitho died January 16 1913, at the age of 6(A)
(If you are interested - there is a cache at Bolithos Mine Cache Reference GCMVXT - with thanks to "Moneydork")

Patrick Quirk CAPLES
A native of Bilbow - County Limerick - Ireland.
Known as a great man of exploration and mining. He pioneered the Hollyford Valley Route & Martins in 1863, and discovered auriferous quartz in Moonlight Gully & Boatmans Creek.
The Boatmans Creek discovery occurred around Mid-Jan 1872, and was in the Caples Creek area, where rich mines such as
the "Fiery Cross", the "Hopeful", and the famous "Welcome" mines were sited, as was the nearby "Just-in-Time".
Caples had a much less successful claim named "El Dorado".
The area at the top of Boatmans Valley was known as Gorgetown, but was later changed officially to Capleston in December 1873.
This is now the area you park at if you are commening the "Kirwans Bridge" cache (GCJAVY - with thanks to "Moneydork")
Patrick Quirk Caples died November 2B 1904.

William (Bill) FOX
"The Autocrat of the Arrow"
Fox was descried as an irascible Irishman, and spent his last 29 years in New Zealand.
He was a veteran miner of the Californian & Victorian Gold Rushes.
Pioneer & Prospector of the Arrow, Otago, Arahura, Fox River and Charleston Goldfields in New Zealand.
Until recently, he lay here in an unmarked grave - which is ironical considering that so many goldfields geographical features were named after him.
William (Bill) FOX died, aged 63, on 9th April 189(C).
