While I feel that Geocaching.com should hold the location for the cache owner and block other cachers from placing a cache in the area around this cache for a reasonable amount of time, we can’t do so forever.

Nothing seems to happen with this cache listing, so it is now archived, so that someone else can place a cache in the area, and geocachers can once again enjoy visiting this location. Also, if it hasn’t been done already, please pick up any remaining cache bits as soon as possible.

Geocaches which have not been maintained or the owner has not responded will not be taken out of the archive

Geocache Description:

At the seashore, easy terrain.

This place was used as a ship factory in the middle of the eighteen century by my ancestors who also ran the farm up the hill. From this spot is also a nice view over to Rennesøy. Most people at Åmøy used to either farm, fish or do both. There was at that time and until recently a small ferry from the other side of the island that went to Stavanger, but some years ago the tunnel made an end to that. Before the tunnel, there even was a car-ferry between the islands and Stavanger that went from the western part of Åmøy. Now Åmøy is mostly inhibited by Stavanger emigrants who also work in Stavanger. The many farms here are falling apart, and the people that worked on them are dyin out. Only a few is still left.

This private ship factory was only active for a period of 15-20 years, but they built quite a few big sail ships of which there exist some photos.
