Geocache Description:

As for last year, the event will take place on the first weekend of September, Friday 1st through Sunday 3rd. However, anyone who wishes to come earlier may do so. We will probably set up on Wednesday 30th August. There will be no limit to the numbers as we have a large field dedicated to us with our own shower and WC facilities.

This year there is a difference. The event will not actually be held in Shropshire but in Denbighshire just across the border into Wales. The campsite is located adjacent to Valle Crucis Abbey, just outside the delightful village of Llangollen, and offers caching adventures in all directions and many other unrelated attractions. By the time of the event, we plan to have more caches placed locally.

Due to the incredible attendance at last year's event we have decided to make this an annual UK wide event (similar in nature to the American 'Geowoodstock' which travels from state to state) with future venues not confined to the Shropshire area, although the events will be held at approximately the same time of year every year. ie. The first weekend in September. The naming of this years event not only is intended to reflect this new direction but also the Arthurian connections associated with the Llangollen area. After all, what is Geocaching if not a ‘Quest’. Since 'Arthurian connections' can be found throughout the UK so, hopefully, will be the following years' events.

The camping site (our area coordinates above) is Abbey Farm Caravan Parks. The owners have agreed to allow us a large field dedicated to our use with its own shower and WC facilities. The site does have facilities for ‘tin-huts-on-wheels’ and they will be permitted in our designated field. However, no electric hook-ups will be available there. If you would prefer to book into the campsite proper to make use of the usual mobile aluminium shed facilities you will need to make these arrangements yourself and will probably be charged the normal rates.

Agreed charges are as follows: £2-50 per person/night £1-00 per vehicle/night No charge for Dogs, Aardvarks, Tents, Awnings, Pop-up jobbies, etc… Not a bad deal we think…

For the non-campers there is an excellent hotel across the road (literally) from the campsite (1-2min walk). The rates posted on the web-site seem very attractive and we will confirm these later. Currently (17th April) they have seven rooms available but ‘Be Warned’ a wedding is planned there for the Saturday and currently only the bride and groom have booked so get your bookings in early so as not to be disappointed. The campsite also offers cottages on site and availability is unknown at this time. If you wish to avail yourself of either of the above non-camping options please make suitable arrangements yourselves.

As to the event itself, a Hog Roast has been organised for the Saturday night and alternative vegetarian food is also being offered. As always, a Kiddie-Cache will be organised as this has proved to be a popular attraction. There are plenty of caches already within a close proximity and we are planning more by the event time. Also, further afield but still well within a days caching radius are many more. Please check back regularly for more updates as our planning unfolds.

We have learned that the Annual North Wales Balloon Festival will also be taking place on the Saturday and Sunday with a firework display on the Saturday night. Hopefully, we will have a view of this from the campsite.

Updates are now being posted on the new event web page. Please check here for all information regarding scheduled events and other stuff like the Hog Roast !
