Geocache Description:

Offset multi-cache. You will get muddy. You Will Get Muddy. YOU WILL GET MUDDY. (Ok, you’ve been warned) You will need a flashlight!

This cave is a very popular destination for local cavers and others. I have been through it several times when I lived in the area full time. My mother went through it in her teens, with a couple friends, one flashlight and a dog. NOT the safe way to go caving! This is an offset cache due to poor GPS reception under the rocks.
From parking at N 38 * 54.701’ W 079* 42.553’ go to power pole 9165-297 1/2 (N 38* 54.722’ W 079* 42.491’) from there go 135 feet at a bearing of 47 degrees.
Cache box is a green ammo can. You will need a flashlight, you will get muddy. You will not need caving experience or specialized equipment.

White Nose Syndrome update: At this time there is no indication that this cache is contributing to this problem. If that changes this cache will be archived and removed without notice.

There is a mysterious problem that is causing many bat deaths in several northeastern caves and this winter the problem has spread to West Virginia and Virginia. As a result, a number of caves have been closed by their owners or managers. Additional information about this problem is available at

As of March 2011 the part of this cave that holds the cache is open.

CE** (May10) Front 200 feet is private and is open. Vast majority of cave is USFS-owned and is closed due to WNS. All back entrances are USFS-owned and are closed. Area along road may be posted, but caver parking & access are allowed.
