Please note Use of geocaching.com services is subject to the terms and conditions
in our disclaimer.
The cache is NOT at the listed
coordinates. You'll need to use the project waypoint feature on your GPSr.
Here's how to find the cache:
Step 1: Starting out at the listed coordinates, find the
highest point in Ashburn (at least the only one within walking
distance). It's not a particularly spectacular view mind you, but
it's the only place I've found in Ashburn that you can see any
great distance. My GPSr said the altitude was 436 feet, but it
should be fairly obvious to you starting from the listed
coordinates.
Step 2: Position yourself such that:
a) The Dulles Airport control tower is centered between the
twin trees (click
here for picture), and
b) The cell phone tower is lined up with the leaning tree
(click
here for picture).
Step 3: From where you are now standing, project a
waypoint 350 feet, bearing 345 True.
You can click on the following link to verify the coordinates
without contacting the cache owner, but the cache owner is happy to
help via email if needed.
BRING A PEN or PENCIL! I didn't
have any of those little golf pencils small enough to put in the
container.
