The Red-Winged
Blackbird, the little Sergeant-at-arms of the Canadian
swamplands, is always smartly turned out in his black tunic
and red shoulder flashes, barking out sharply when his
perimeter is breached. To carry that anthropomorphic model
even further, the Red-winged Blackbird is one of the most
highly polygynous of all bird species. Their habitat is
characterized by still or slow running water, abundant
vegetation and excellent satellite reception.
A small area of Red-winged Blackbird habitat can be found next
to Dow’s Lake, surrounded by pathways. The cache, hidden for Go ‘n
Get ‘em 8, contains various dollar store items and a business card
sized First-to-Find Trophy. There's also a First-KID-to-Find
prize; James Keelaghan's album, Home, with the song, "Red-winged
Blackbird". A note of caution for parents; "Red-winged Blackbird"
is one of those songs that gets played over and over and over and
over and over. Due to poor planning on my part, the CD won't fit in
the cache container, and is in a ziploc bag, fastened to the cache
with an elastic band.
Safe as Moses in the rushes
Makes his home on the river wide
Everytime I hear him singing
Makes me feel like spring inside
Thought I heard a red-winged blackbird
Red-winged blackbird down my road
Thought I heard a red-winged blackbird
Red-winged blackbird down my road
