Tobben's Tumble Traditional Cache

This cache has been archived.

NorthWes: Placed a new ammocan here on March 29, intending to leave it for a week before re-activating the cache. It's gone as of April 7th, so I'm archiving this location. With the new biathlon range construction right nearby this location is drawing too much attention. Fortunately, no new travel bugs had been emplaced in the container (or anything else - so I'm only out a second ammocan...) sigh

Geocache Description:

New coordinates as of 9/10/06: N61 09.118 W150 02.845

Kincaid Park is home to over 1,400 acres of uniquely-named trails and terrain features.

Just south of the Stadium at Kincaid lies an intermediate ski trail that loops all the way out to Tobben's Turn on the south bluff overlooking Turnagain Arm. Enjoy the trail's first hill - Tobben tumbled downhill onto the next trail over to the east while on the way out to the Turn! The outbound trail leads within a dozen feet of the cache...

Etiquette note: Please access the cache from the side of the tree that's not facing the main trail, using the little trail to the southeast side of the tree to get behind it - this will keep an obvious path from leading up to the front of the hide at the base of the tree!

Construction Update - Summer 2006: Work on the new biathlon range has moved a tremendous amount of dirt between the cache and the stadium parking lot. Please avoid loose soils along the trail's edge near the cache where the bulldozer has been working to prevent dirtslides, and stay on the obvious trail pathway through construction area. DO NOT GET NEAR ANY PARKED EQUIPMENT! Vandalism of equipment here in August 2006 caused expensive damage - everything you see around the biathlon range is donated-use equipment - so help keep the donation from turning into a negative for the contractor!

In wintertime please respect groomed ski trails and either ski to the cache or hike cross-country from the parking lot.

This cache was placed during Geocache Alaska's April 2006 'Introduction to Geocaching' event, held in cooperation with Anchorage Parks and Recreation Dept., and is a purposely-easy find.
