This cache is located near an old gold mine in the Conondale National Park and is a little more than 10 kilometres south-west of Kenilworth.

This cache is located at the Booloumba Creek Falls and is accessed via a very pleasant 3 kilometre return walk from the nearby picnic grounds and carpark.

The Falls carpark has barbeques and is about 6 kilometres from Booloumba Creek 3 /4 camp grounds.  It's worth noting however that the picnic area has no facilities - not even rubbish bins so if you bring it in, you must take it out.

DIRECTIONS: The Booloumba Creek camping grounds are located about 6 kilometres from the Maleny - Kenilworth Road. Take the Booloumba Creek turnoff which is about 6 kilometres from Kenilworth. (Be sure NOT to take the turnoff to Charlie Moreland camping grounds).

You will go through some creek crossings if you choose the Booloumba Creek approach though they are usually passable by conventional vehicle... if there has been recent good rain in the area then the 4WD may be be required - or a company car at the very least.

Booloumba Creek camping areas 1 and 3 are for tents only and you will need to book online at the epa website ( https://www.epa.qld.gov.au/parks/iaparks/gds/IAGDS020.do?parkId=21) or ring SmartService Qld 13 13 04.

There is a good PDF info file on the area is available at http://www.epa.qld.gov.au/media/parks_and_forests/parks/kenilworth_parks_forests_map.pdf.

Grounds 1 and 3 have campsites close to a running creek. Booloumba Creek camping ground #4 is a large open grassy areas which are great for large families, groups and campervans.

Check out the information at the above site to make sure you are covered though a couple of notes that may help.

  • Firewood is no longer provided so make sure you bring your own or buy some locally.  There are usually a couple of places on the way with plenty of good wood available.

  • No Rubbish Bins - you must take your rubbish with you !

When we placed this cache, we struggled to get a reliable GPS lock - for this reason, the following information is provided to assist in the location of the cache.

*** Please feel free to post updated coordinates if you get a better fix than we did - i'll average them out and update the coordinates accordingly. ***

As you reach the falls, you will come across a sign and a fence which is to the left of the path. Walk to the fence, turn around, and take 15 paces back.  To your left, on the high side of the path, is a large tree about 5 metres from the path... this is the tree you are looking for.

Please take care when you leave and return to the track so as to not disturb the bush and thereby make an obvious track into the bush.  Also, this area is quite popular so please be aware of approaching muggles.
