UPDATE: After a temporary disabling, this cache is back and ready to go! Co-ordinates have been updated Oct 23/06. Make sure to hide final cache well...it was badly muggled before!
This is a multi cache designed to introduce geocachers to some of the most haunted spots throughout the HRM. This cache will take you just over an hour if you have a car. To find the final cache, you will have to visit four haunted waypoints and record the values given in each to enter in as co-ordinates to the cache itself. Use the key below to add the waypoints together:
N44 A(**).B(***)
W063 C(**).D(***)
This multi is designed to be easy for even small ghost
hunters, as it does not involve any bushwacking. I encourage you to list any ghostly experiences you may have had in the logbook...who knows, you might even see a spirit at the waypoints of this multi!
Sherrif Hall (N44 38.075 W063 35.632)
This female residence at Dalhousie University has long been known to harbour the ghost of a maid named Penelope who worked on the 3rd and 4th floors of the building in the 1920's. Seemingly without reason, she hanged herself in the attic of the building, by a rope which some claim is still there. She has often been heard making noise on the fourth floor, and has even appeared to some students. To find the
waypoint, look for a film canister in a rocky place.
The Pit: King's College (N44 38.273 W063 35.729)
At the edge of Dalhousie's campus, lies King's College. Here, in an area known to acting students as "The Pit", the ghost of a janitor dressed in yellow coveralls has often been seen. He has been known to approach students, vanishing as he walks towards him. To find this waypoint, look for a small container in a gnarled tree with concrete bricks
in it. Reach where you can't see.
Robie Street Palace (N44 38.601 W063 35.336)
From the location of this waypoint, you can see the side of the building known as "The Robie Street Palace". Built in the 1840's by William Caldwell, this building boasts a cursed window, as well as poltergeist activity. Objects used to fly about the home, and one elderly man living in the house once claimed to have seen "witches" dancing on the veranda. Through this same window, a resident once fired his shotgun at a young boy who was stealing apples from his
apple tree. Instead of merely scaring the boy, by fluke, the lad was shot and killed. Ever since, the window has been painted black. From the vantage point of this waypoint, you can still see the blacked out window, as well as the stump where the old apple tree once grew. Look for a small canister in a large hidey-hole in a lovely old tree.
The Cellar Bar and Grill (N44 43.930 W063 39.501)
This Bedford restaurant is a great place to eat...if you don't mind sharing the space with spirits. The waypoint is located behind the building and across the river. It was here that just over 20 years ago a body in a bag washed up on shore. Since then poltergeist-like activity has been reported in the restaurant. Not that they weren't
used to ghosts. For 200 years the ghost of a young woman who was murdered at the once-farm-now-turned-grill has been playing with both employees and guests alike. The farmgirl has been known to call staff by their names, and when they go to respond, they find nobody there. She has also been seen running through the dining room, her dress flowing behind her. Container is film canister in a tree. If you get chance, stop for a bite...and maybe a fright!
FINAL CACHE
This area is close to the water of the Bedford Basin. Here, at dusk, you can hear the rowing of a dory full of men that drowned when their boat overturned at the end of the 19th Century. They row towards the shoreline they never reached. Have fun finding this cache! It's a canister, camoflagued with a great FTF prize for you ghost fans out there!
Enjoy, and let me know if you see any ghosties!!
