Thanks to all who visited and left a note and I hope you all enjoyed the location - I have certainly enjoyed the comments from visitors overs the years.

A popular rest area on the side of SH1 north of Waiouru on the Desert Rd. Provides great views of the mountains on a fine day.
Standing in the rest area looking out towards the mountains, one can see a deep channel cut into the ground, with a small building at the eastern end. Most people would never know that this is the beginning of the Rangipo Power Scheme. If you look at the picture included in the cache, we have marked the location of another small building in the distance, which is the very first intake for the tunnel (also marked in the picture) that flows right underneath where you are standing, through the hill behind you, and into Lake Moawhango.
Unfortuantely, the intake is not accessable by the public, as it is located within the Army Training Area, so we have included a photo of this building. Please do not go into the Training Area, there is unexploded ordanance, deep pits, and the risk of live firing happening at any time, day or night, without warning.
