An easy multi-geocache along an old state snowmobile trail that begins from the Fish Mountain Cemetery parking lot. This is a 3-mile round trip hike in a forest. The Terrain is rated for winter conditions. During the summer the rating is (2). This Cache is based on the books of Narnia by C.S. Lewis. YES, there is a real Victorian Lamppost!!
If you are an Adirondack Fan and/or a Narnia fan, and enjoy long nature hikes, snowmobiling, and/or snowshoeing, then this is the cache for you. Yes, there is a real Victorian Lamppost!!
Lantern Waste~Narnia is an easy multicache that begins with one cache box that has a MAP of Narnia for you to keep. However, this first cache box is NOT used for trading objects nore logging in. The MAP will have instructions to help you find two other caches. Only one of the two caches is used to trade an object and to write in a logbook. But don't worry, the other cache has a fun and easy task for you to do if you wish. This 3 mile round-trip hike begins at the Fish Mountain Cemetery (where you can park) along an old state snowmobile trail. Follow the trail till you see the first cache, then enjoy a wild Narnia ADVENTURE.
Please begin this adventure by parking at the Fish Mountain Cemetery located at the dead-end of Fish Mountain Road off of Route 8 in Lake Pleasant, New York in the Southern Adirondacks.
The beginning of the snowmobile trail may be a bit swampy/muddy/wet and/or full of tall grass during spring (mud season) and wet summers. There is higher dry ground (to your right) that goes around this mud and grass area. Some of the wooden bridges along the trail might be a bit rotten, so please watch your step. PLEASE, only go as far as the last cache box or to the beaver's dam. DO NOT CROSS THE STREAM or Bridge near the final cache box. !!(Private Property)!!
In the late spring & wet summers you WILL need a LOT of bug-spray and maybe a fly-net for your head. Black Fly Season and Mosquitoes are known to be the worst in the Adirondacks. In the winter, you will need to look out for low branches while snowmobiling as well as other snowmobiles. Mud Season (March-early May) is not the best time to find this geocache unless you have high rubber boots and if you can handle the black flies.
I would advise you NOT to bush-whack from the first cache box to the second and third cache box. You WILL hit swamp-land and the bugs are also not worth it. Stay on the CACHE TRAIL, it's Easier, Safer and Faster. If you do not, you might be kidnapped by some Narnian Outlaws. Just kidding! Bush-whacking is aloud from the third cache box to the beaver's dam. Just follow the northern side of the stream.
If you are a Letterbox Hunter, there is a letterbox inside the main/last geocache box. It's a square plastic box inside in the back. There is a Logbook, Stamp and Inkpad in the letterbox. Please place it in the back of the geocache box after you have signed in. For more clues, look up www.letterboxing.org and look up LbNA#: 26777.
