Small Vitamin Bottle on road to Padrone Canyon Overlook
Located near an obvious landmark, this cache is a fairly easy grab on your way to Padrone Canyon Overlook. The original contents of the cache are a light stick, log, and pencil. Take the Padrone Canyon Road exit off Soda Lake Road and stay on this main dirt road all the way to the cache! You will have to go through one gate on the way to this cache - be sure and close it behind you in both directions. Official BLM maps online will show "Padrone", not "Padrones".
Be careful in this area! Taking dirt roads that offshoot from this main dirt road can lead to some treacherous areas - don't let anyone try to tell you otherwise. I drove down some other roads in this area that steepened to the point where you might not get back out. Other off-roads had crevasses open up in the middle of the road around a sharp turn. Stay on the main dirt road in the area and you'll do fine!
Although my daughter and I didn't see any, other geocachers in the area have found tics on their clothing after walking in the area - be sure to check. Dry grass is a fire hazard so don't drive or park over dry grass.
If you ever reach a sign that says no vehicles allowed - you're on the wrong road. Be sure and continue up the road after grabbing this cache to see Padrone Canyon Overlook: an incredible view of Cuyama Valley, California Valley and Elkhorn Valley!
